Filing a Contract

Any Free Person may file a contract and have it considered by the Brotherhood. Contracts are judged by many different criteria. Some of which are:

Valid and Realistic Story Line
Understanding of Money (10 dsg for the slaying of your average peasant from a baker is ludicrous and will not be accepted)
Contractor filled out forms correctly
Contractor Filled contract correctly, etc....

Step:

  1. Fill out the blank contract form 'in full' (following directions)

  2. Place offered payment in a dark pouch or sack.

  3. Place both pouch/sack and contract in a small chest.

  4. Close and latch the small chest but do not lock it.

  5. Send to the Assassin Chosen, if any. If none is chosen, send to the Ubar of Assassins.

If the chest is returned to the contractor without the sack and contract then the mark is dead and the contract fulfilled.

If the chest is returned to with the sack of coins still inside then your contract was was not attempted for one of several reasons, of which you may or may not be notified.

If the latter is the case then you may get a notice stating the reasons for such.

Once the below form has been filled out in entirety, it should be mailed to both the contracted (The Assassin you are asking to kill for you) and the Black Caste
Record Keeper.

Assassination Request
(you may copy and paste this directly)

Name of Target: (the name(s) he/she goes by and the full SN in lower case letters)

Name of Contractor: (the name(s) you go by and your full SN in lower case letters)

Name of Contracted: (Assassin's full SN in lower case letters, or just put "Any")

Contract Price: (how much are you offering for the kill. Be realistic. If you don't understand Gorean currency and this is observed thru your offering price, then your contract will be denied )

4 copper tarsk bits = 1 copper tarsk
100 copper tarsks = 1 silver tarsk
1 silver tarsk = 40 copper tarns
400 copper tarns = 1 gold tarn
10 silver tarsks = 1 gold tarn
2 gold tarns = 1 double tarn

Information about the Target: (this is information you can give us to speed up the killing process... such as times of day they are on, places they go, PR links, friends, family, associates, etc... anything you can think of)

Your reason for wanting the contract: (explain to us in your own words and in detail why you want this contract. Also include a log of the offense. Highlight the pertinent parts of the log we need to look at as we each aren't going to pick thru a log looking for what your talking about. Paste the log into the mail, if you attach a file to your contract, be sure to include a pasted version in the email.)

Contract Expiration

Only one contract will be honored on a mark per month. The date starts at the completion, expiration, or voiding of last contract filed on the mark. No repeat contracts may be filed by the same person on the same person (example: We will only ever accept one contract from JoeSnuffy on BillyBadAss. If the hunt fails after 30 days someone else may file another contract on BillyBadAss but another one from JoeSnuffy on BillyBadAss will not be accepted).

Contracts are until the mark is killed. No assassin would let their mark survive, even if they miss the first time. If they miss, they have to wait a full twenty four hours before making another attempt. If the Assassin was seen and leaves the room before the "shot" was taken then the contract continues. If the AA is botched and results in a DM where the Mark is slain, the contract is considered fulfilled and the money will not be returned)

How a Contract Ends

A contract ends when any one of the following takes place:

  • When the Contractor sends in a request for cancellation. (see below)

  • When the Contracted kills the mark.

  • When the contract is bought out.

  • When the Assassin fails too many times. Three is usually the limit and the Killer is put on Assassination Probation.

Alternative Filing

There is an alternative to the standard contract request with the copy and paste from the web page and sending it to the Master of Assassins. Below is a list of the "required" steps of this alternative.

  1. The potential contractor contacts any registered and non-probationary member of the caste (log this encounter).

  2. The potential contractor and potential contracted discuss the desired mark, payment, and other pertinent information (including a log of the offense that the contract is based on).

  3. If the registered and non-probationary deems all as valid and wishes to take part in the hunt he must receive complete payment for the Assassination.

  4. With all of the above standards met the Assassin in question then fills out a blank contract as if it came from the original contractor and sends it to the caste scribe (including both a log of the offense and a log of the agreement with the contractor).

  5. The Assassin in question will also deposit the collected monies into the caste treasury (send a scroll to the second chair of the deposit. CC a copy to the Ubar, or one of his Council members).

  6. The contract will be reviewed to ensure it is for a valid reason. (IE: not for the kidnapping of a kajira, player crossing, so on so forth)

Rarely will contracts be given to select Killers. This gives the Assassin a chance to interact with others, and have them gain their own contracts like a rat race. Again, the way it's supposed to be within the books. Contracts aren't always handed out from Council to their Assassins, Assassins were hired by the herd. Role-play is the top priority.

Canceling a Contract

There are two ways a contract can be canceled. The first is by directive of the Black Caste to "forfeit" or "veto" the contract. The second is by a 'notice of cancellation' from the Contractor.

  1. Cancellation by the Caste; Vetoed: This occurs when there are extenuating circumstances where it is in the best interest of the Brotherhood to no longer permit it.

  2. Notice of Cancellation:

This occurs when the contractor decides for one reason or another that he/she wants to withdraw the contract. This must be done In Character and In Writing (or thru direct IC contact with the Hunter if initial contract was made thru this direct contact with the same Hunter). There is a fee and conditions for canceling a contract. A 20% fee will be deducted from the returned payment for the processing and time afforded by the chairs and scribe. An additional 20-30% fee "may" apply depending on how close the Hunter is to the mark. The Hunting Assassin also has the option of turning down the cancellation. (For example: If the cost of the contract was 10 gold and the assassin has completed every part of the hunting process except the strike, he had spent 4 gold on bribes, equipment, and transportation for the kill. Would it be prudent for him to accept payment of 2 gold with the contracts cancellation? Of course not, he would lose money, not gain it.)

A contract does not end if the contractor dies so long as payment was received in full.

This does not apply to contracts that were unable to be completed. Contracts where a physical attempt was made but missed will have their payments returned in full.
